A Loss in the Argentine Color Community
From Prof. José Luis Caivano
Dear friends,
It is with deep sorrow that I have to tell you that our colleague, Emilia Rabuini, died on May 15, 2010, at a young age, after a short and fulminant illness.
Some of you may remember Emilia from her oral presentation in AIC 2008 in Stockholm, where she exposed her research on the historical colors of La Boca neighborhood in Buenos Aires. Emilia was currently a member of the executive committee of the Argentine Color Group, as well as a member of the organizing committee of the next AIC Interim Meeting “Color and Food” to be held in Mar del Plata city.
She graduated as architect at the University of Buenos Aires, where she was also a teacher during some time. Following her inclinations as educator, she founded and directed the Pampa Center for Design, where color courses were usually taught in the context of architecture, interior design, and related professions.
We will remember Emilia for her projects, her paintings, her work related to the patrimonial chromatic values of La Boca district, and most of all, for her marvelous qualities as a human being.
Attached in the PDF, pictures of Emilia with some people in AIC 2008, Stockholm.

The International Colour Community Has Lost a Member
Emilia Rabuini was a member of the AIC Study Group on Environmental Colour Design, since 2008. At the Congress of the Argentine Colour Group (GAC) in 2004, she attracted my attention with her interesting talk on colour schemes conceived for buildings in La Boca district, a research she had carried out to restore the palette applied by the artist Benito Quinquela Martín. Thereafter in 2006 I visited Emilia in her school Centro Pampa in Buenos Aires and learned about her engagement as a passionate teacher, director and mother. As well, I met her in Mexico when we had the chance to teach a colour workshop for architectural, design and art students, organised by Comex. On October 16th, 2007, Emilia came to Paris to introduce her work to the members of ad chroma. And in 2008 I met her – for the last time – in Stockholm at the AIC Meeting. At the end of her talk she unfolded the colour palette she had recently published. I took a picture of her at this very moment, an eternal moment.
My condolences to her family and friends. Deep in grief,
Verena M. Schindler Chair of the AIC Study Group on Environmental Colour Design
